Philadelphia, USA – Chelsea’s midfield maestro Enzo Fernández, a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, is eagerly anticipating the highly-anticipated clash between Chelsea and Flamengo in Group D of the Club World Cup. Following Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Los Angeles FC on Monday in their opening match, Fernández spoke highly of the Brazilian giants.
“The truth is, I know Flamengo because we were rivals when I was at River Plate,” Fernández told DAZN. “They’re a massive club globally, with a huge fanbase and many good players. It’s going to be a beautiful spectacle. They have so many fans. It’ll be a great game.”
This isn’t the first time Fernández has singled out Flamengo for praise. The Argentine midfielder has consistently highlighted the unparalleled atmosphere that the Rubro-Negra supporters, one of the largest fanbases in the world, bring to matches.
“Flamengo is a huge club that’s known worldwide,” he previously explained to FIFA. “The atmosphere of the match will be unbeatable, because Brazilians are very passionate, just like us Argentines. I hope the stadium is loud, that everyone enjoys it, and that football is the winner.”
