Former President Jair Bolsonaro has denied allegations of involvement in a supposed coup plan following his defeat in the 2022 presidential election. Speaking to reporters on Monday (25), Bolsonaro stated:
“Coup? Zero. The word ‘coup’ has never been in my dictionary. Since I took office in 2019, I have been accused of wanting to stage a coup.”
The Federal Police (PF) has indicted Bolsonaro along with 36 others, including military personnel and former ministers, on charges of attempting to overthrow the government, criminal organization, and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law.
Audio Evidence
According to the PF, audio recordings from military officials allegedly detailed plans for a coup and referenced informing Bolsonaro. In response, the ex-president dismissed the accusations, saying the recordings “offend” him and reaffirming his commitment to acting within constitutional limits.
“You can solve Brazil’s problems, your problems, within the Constitution,” he stated.
Bolsonaro made the comments while speaking to the press after landing at Brasília International Airport on Monday evening.
