Chad McQueen, actor and son of legendary Hollywood star Steve McQueen, passed away at the age of 63. Known for his breakout role as Dutch in the 1984 hit movie The Karate Kid, McQueen passed away on Wednesday, according to his attorney Arthur H. Barens.
Following in his famous father’s footsteps, Chad McQueen found success not only on screen but also in the world of motor racing. His wife, Jeanie Galbraith, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram alongside their children, Chase and Madison. The family expressed their grief, writing, “His remarkable journey as a loving father to us, along with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication. His passion for racing not only highlighted his exceptional talent, but also served as a way to honor his father’s legacy.”

In addition to his children with Jeanie, McQueen is survived by his son from a previous relationship, actor Steven R. McQueen, known for his role in The Vampire Diaries.
Chad McQueen reprised his role in The Karate Kid Part II in 1986 and appeared in several other films. He also honored his father’s legacy by producing two documentaries: I Am Steve McQueen in 2014 and Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans in 2015.
Beyond acting, McQueen inherited his father’s love for cars and had a successful racing career, competing in prestigious events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona. In 2010, he founded McQueen Racing, where he worked with his children to create custom cars and motorcycles.
In a 2005 interview, McQueen reflected on his shift from acting to racing, saying, “I didn’t find acting fun anymore, so I decided to give racing a total commitment.”
His son, Chase McQueen, also shared a touching message on Instagram, writing, “Knowing you’re now reunited with your Dad and Sister brings me some comfort. Until we ride again, I love you.”
Jon Hurwitz, co-creator of Cobra Kai, also paid tribute to McQueen, calling him a “Karate Kid legend.” Hurwitz shared that they had discussed bringing McQueen back for the series but, unfortunately, it never materialized. “Dutch will always be remembered as a badass’ badass in the Miyagiverse,” Hurwitz posted.
McQueen leaves behind a legacy of passion, both in film and racing, and will be remembered by fans of The Karate Kid and beyond.
