“The Los Angeles Clippers have announced the contract extension of Kawhi Leonard. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the new deal is set for the next three seasons and is estimated at $152.4 million. The announcement was made by the franchise’s president of basketball operations, Lawrence Frank, who celebrated the star player’s continued presence.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Kawhi. He is an elite player, an incredible teammate, and a tireless worker who knows how to win,” stated Frank. “He has elevated our franchise since the moment he arrived. We feel fortunate to have had Leonard with the Clippers for the past five years and are excited to continue building with him,” he added.
Before the contract renewal, Kawhi Leonard had a contractual option with the Clippers for the 2024/25 season. However, now, he is expected to decline the old agreement to activate the new one.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the extension includes $52 million for the 2024/25 season, along with $100 million over the following two seasons.
The renewal puts an end to one of the major storylines of the past few months in the NBA. After all, since the topic became a focal point, Leonard had been trying to dispel rumors and showed no rush for a new deal. However, from the outset, he signaled his interest in staying with the franchise.”
